Eulogy for Jack Rivera Pischedda
Today we celebrate the life of our beloved Jack — our little Yorkshire terrier with the biggest heart. For 18 years, Jack was more than just a pet. He was our family dog, loved by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and everyone who ever had the gift of meeting him.
Jack had a way of making friends everywhere he went. He was friendly to all who crossed his path — except for one important exception. When Avery, our first grandchild and great-grandchild, came into our lives, Jack became fiercely protective. Even before Avery was born, Jack somehow knew, guarding and watching over with a loyalty only he could give.
Over the years, Jack carried many names: Jack, Jack Attack, Jack Black, and finally, Old Man. But no matter the name, every version of him was loved deeply. His spirit touched each of us differently, yet the common thread was clear: Jack was family, through and through.
He was a constant presence through the seasons of our lives. His wagging tail, protective bark, and loving eyes gave us comfort, laughter, and the kind of love that never asks for anything in return. Though our hearts ache with his absence, we know Jack left this world the same way he lived in it — surrounded by love.
Rest well, Jack. Thank you for being our guardian, our companion, and our joy. You were our good boy, and we will carry you in our hearts always.
Poem for Jack
“Jack Attack”
To some you were Jack Attack, to others Jack Black,
Or “Old Man” who still had life’s fire intact.
A name for each season, each memory we keep,
Our guardian, our shadow, our love running deep.
You welcomed the world with a wag and a cheer,
A friend to all people who happened near.
But when Avery came, before she drew breath,
You stood as her guard — her shield, her strength.
Through laughter and chaos, through family and years,
You gave us your heart, your love, and your tears.
Eighteen long years, and yet not enough,
To say goodbye now is unbearably tough.
But Jack, our dear Jack, forever you’ll stay,
In the hearts that you touched, you’re not far away.
Our faithful companion, our joy, and our pride —
Our sweet little terrier, still here at our side.
